Mental Health Awareness Week

Here at AllThingsHemp Shop, we're all about organic and natural alternatives to many products full of synthetic chemicals or that have a harmful effect on our planet.

Many of you wont realise that today marks the start of the Mental Health Awareness Week campaign, who is focusing this year on the theme of Kindness! You can get involved at the link above!

With Mental Health being something I can personally relate to, and something that many people struggle with on a daily basis, I wanted to do an article on how CBD products can not only help you when you're feeling your lowest, they can help keep you feeling your best.

From my own experience, speaking out against Mental Health as a man is often construed as a sign of weakness, with many phrases such as: "man up", "men don't cry" and "grow a pair" being common replies to a man asking for help. For many years of my childhood growing up gay, feeling outcast and being told I wasn't good enough by my peers, I often questioned whether there was even any point to me being around. I suffered from body conditions such as bulimia (luckily very mildly), anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

Suicide in the UK is one of the single biggest killers of men under 45, but I want to make sure that people know: no matter who you are, you are worth being here and you are loved by someone somewhere. If you can't find anyone right next to you, you'll always have me!

CBD: Supporting Yourself

CBD is known to be beneficial for a multitude of anxiety and mental health disorders including panic attacks, insomnia, social anxiety, OCDs and PTSD. I know that, had I known about CBD back when I was struggling, I would never have had the darker moments that I endured growing up. How do I know this

CBD offers you the opportunity to stop overthinking; it calms your body, relaxes your thoughts and gives you the opportunity to work things through. CBD does this by influencing non-cannabinoid receptors. According to Teaera Roland of Lotus Health, CBD modulates the 5-HT serotonin receptor, which can treat psychotic disorders. It can also affect the TRPV1 receptor, which is responsible for pain and inflammation.

My revelation that I was good enough only came about when I realised one key fact: I only have to be good enough for me. Had I had the calm that CBD can offer, which would have slowed my thinking down to the point where I could understand it all, I could have worked through my own insecurities and made this realisation much sooner.

Since my revelation I have - and I'm sure my friends and family would agree - blossomed. I feel so much better in myself because I know that the only person's opinion who matters is my own, and I am one of the luckier people. Many will go through life feeling worthless, or feeling undervalued or unimportant and never reach the same place I am. If you're one of these people, there is help available for you.

A Fond Goodbye

I invite you all to check in on your friends and family, let them know you're there and be mindful of what you say around others. Some of the most painful words you can hear, are the ones from your friends next to you.

You can even treat them to some of our CBD products specially formulated with the man in mind. Remember to use the promo code MENSHEALTH10 on orders over £20 for 10% off all Men's products. Available from 18 May 2020 until 29 May 2020.
