The Benefits of CBD
We all know that CBD has apparent healing properties for many health conditions that cause chronic pain, fatigue, inflammation, seizures and mental health issues, but a very interesting question being asked right now is:
‘Could CBD work as an effective treatment in the fight against COVID-19?’
It is widely accepted that the Coronavirus attacks the respiratory system and there is now growing evidence that patients with COVID-19 are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular complications.
Additionally, people with pre-existing cardiovascular disease are more likely to develop severe symptoms associated with COVID-19 and could suffer a worse prognosis than those patients without heart conditions.
Hear it from the Experts
According to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Cardiology, 35% of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 had underlying cardiovascular disease and had a significantly higher mortality rate than patients without heart conditions.
However, early research from America now indicates that CBD consumption could reduce the severity and prevent the progression of COVID-19 symptoms.
Cardiol Therapies Inc, who presented the research data at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Cardiology at the end of March 2020, stated that:
‘Experimental evidence demonstrating the cardio protective and anti-inflammatory properties of cannabidiol (CBD) suggest therapeutic potential in this vulnerable patient population, with the hope of significantly improving patient outcomes.’
However, Dr Dani Gordon, a UK medical cannabis expert, warned that it’s too early to rely on CBD as a ‘miracle cure’ for COVID-19. She stressed that we need to know more before making definite claims in this respect, although she did concede that CBD’s boosting effect on the immune system and its’ anti-inflammation properties generally could potentially have a positive impact, alongside adopting a healthy lifestyle and taking any other prescribed medication.
Here at All Things Hemp Shop, we believe that, as CBD is known to contribute to maintaining good health and wellness generally and has anti-inflammatory properties, there can surely be no harm in using CBD as a holistic, natural wellness supplement, amongst other traditional methods, in the fight against COVID-19.
